The Volvo Owners’ Club is to host a special treat for enthusiasts by displaying a Volvo OV4, never before shown in the UK, at this year’s Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with Discovery.
The Volvo OV4 was the very first production Volvo, with only 10 now in existence worldwide. The car on display at the NEC will be the only one ever to have been in this country and is considered to be one of the best examples. First registered in January 1928, it was meticulously restored over the course of a year by experts in Sweden.
“This really is an amazing opportunity for Volvo enthusiasts,” says Event Director, Lee Masters. “We have many special cars at the show but the fact that this one has never appeared in the UK before, and represents the very beginning of Volvo’s history, is something we are especially proud of.”
Built between 1927 and 1929, just 205 examples of the Volvo OV4 were made. The four-seater, open bodywork was constructed using steel panels over a wooden frame and the car was powered by a 2-litre, four-cylinder engine producing 28hp.
However, it’s not the only attraction on the club’s stand. A number of Volvo Amazon models will be on display, including Peter Ragg’s beautifully restored 1965 example, which once appeared in the television show Peak Practice and is affectionately known as Violet. You’ll find the club in Hall 5, at stand number 260.
