We take a quick look at a few events that took place earlier this month.
On Sunday January 6, Footman James hosted its first Coffee & Chrome meet, located in the picturesque grounds of Chateau Impney. The free event brought together over 400 enthusiasts and 200 classic vehicles from across the country, with some visitors driving all the way from Devon to be part of all the action. Future Coffee & Chrome events will be taking place throughout 2019 (dates to be confirmed).
The first Sunday Scramble of 2019 took place at Bicester Heritage on January 6, and once again saw thousands of enthusiasts pouring through the gates in an incredible variety of classic vehicles. The organisers reported a record number of pre-event ticket sales, which was borne out by classics all over the site and in the hangars – including this 70-strong display of MGs. The next Scramble takes place on April 28 to coincide with Drive-it Day.
The curtain was raised on the Mini’s 60th anniversary year in fine style by Wirral Minis, which hosted its long-running annual Wirral to Llandudno Mini Run on January 6. The sold out event saw 230 Minis journey across North Wales bound for the Great Orme in Llandudno, before finishing up on Llandudno Promenade. The run also saw £1000 raised for Claire House Children’s Hospice.
Amongst the thousands of performers and attractions in London’s New Year’s Day Parade were a great turn-out of Minis, with the London and Surrey Mini owners Club and the Mini Moke Club both involved. It’s an important year for both clubs, as not only does the Mini celebrate its diamond jubilee, the Moke also reached its 55th birthday. More than 650,000 spectators turned up to watch the 33rd parade, which ran from Piccadilly to Parliament Square.
