A dream garage chock full of iconic modern classics ranging from the early 1980s to the early 2000s. The incredible 140-strong collection belongs to a single private owner, and will be offered across four different RM auctions in 2019 – two in Florida and two in Europe.
The collection features a full spectrum of European marques, including a whopping 34 cars from Mercedes-Benz including several pre-merger AMG cars, with a host of Alpina and M performance models in amongst the 27 BMWs. A rare manual 928 GTS, a 911 Turbo 3.6 and a 2011 GT3 RS appear in an eight-strong group of Porsches, while British luxury is catered for by 12 cars from Rolls-Royce, 11 from Bentley, eight Jaguars and four Aston Martins. Other notable European models are what appears to be a pair of mid-engined Renault 5 Maxi Turbos, four Ferraris, two Morgans (including an Aero SuperSport) and one car each from Audi, Lotus, and Lamborghini.
From Japan comes a 9200-mile Acura (Honda) NSX, a Toyota Supra with 11,200 miles and a group of Nissan 300ZXs – one a 2800-mile Twin Turbo model. Cars from Mazda and Mitsubishi are also featured, while America is represented by famed marques such as Cadillac and Chevrolet.
“From nearly every iteration of the BMW Alpina to the Mercedes-Benz 500 SEC AMG 6.0 Wide Body, Porsche 928 GTS, and the Renault 5 Turbo, the private collection we’ve added to our 2019 calendar has nearly every car youth of the ‘80s and ‘90s dreamed of,” said RM Sotheby’s Global Head of Auctions, Gord Duff. “The ‘80s and ‘90s ‘youngtimers’ are back and here to stay in the world of car collecting, and we’re thrilled to offer this extensive collection on behalf of its enthusiastic owner. Truly a young man’s garage, the consignor is ready to distil his collection and share these exciting cars with other like-minded enthusiasts.”
Held during the same week as the Rétromobile show, RM’s Paris event on February 6 will auction off just over 20 of the cars, followed by the company’s Amelia Island sale in Florida on March 9, which will offer more than 10 cars. Next up is RM’s Ford Lauderdale event, also in Florida, which will auction another 20 cars or so on March 28-29. Last up is RM’s Germany sale, which will offer the remaining 80-plus lots as part of the 31st Techno-Classica show on April 11.
If you’re in the market for an iconic modern classic and have deep pockets, then this collection will probably have the car for you. We’ll bring you more news on the cars included in a future issue, but in the meantime see rmsothebys.com for details.
